Michael: I’m Michael Hyam with the Business Exchange. We’re here at the International Franchise Association Annual Convention. I’m here with Bachir Mihoubi. Thank you for coming. Bachir is the CEO of FranCounsel Group. Bachir specializes in International Franchise Development. Bachir my question to you is, US Brands coming into Canada, do they have to follow the same franchise laws as Canadian brands?
Bachir: They do. Especially right now in Canada there are more and more provinces issuing regulation and American Franchisors have to follow the same rules and will be treated the same way as a Canadian Franchise.
Michael: Okay so do they have to do anything when coming into Canada, do they have to change over I guess?
Bachir: Well they have to make sure that they follow whatever….take the example of Ontario, if they have disclosure laws, then they have to follow those disclosure laws. Typically the United States doesn’t have a big problem adapting to the laws in Canada because they already have very stringent regulations in the United States. It’s pretty much taking their disclosure documents and adapting it to to laws of Canada which is not actually as complex as going to another country.
Michael: Okay, Perfect.
